Blackpool Council to benefit from extra £4.6 million in funding announced by the Government Councils have received £6.4 billion in additional direct support since April. Local authority has been provided with £23.86 million in extra funding since the pandemic began. Scott Benton MP has welcomed news that Blackpool South will benefit from a share of £900 million in additional funding for local councils announced by the Government, which includes Blackpool Council.

Scott Benton has asked Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP, The Chancellor of the Exchequer, what extra support can be given to the resort’s small businesses including the many small hotels who cannot survive on local bookings alone.

Scott Benton said:

“The imposition of Tier 3 restrictions in Lancashire will inevitably mean that many people and businesses in Blackpool South will be significantly worse off.

Scott Benton MP asked the Secretary of State for Health, Matt Hancock MP, on what basis and how often will Blackpool's Tier 3 Very High restrictions be reviewed: 

Although many of my constituents recognise that the decision to place Lancashire in tier 3 was indeed justified on public health grounds, it will nevertheless leave many of them, and those who own businesses, significantly worse off.
