The UK is the biggest European spender in NATO and the second biggest in the Alliance overall. We are one of very few countries to not only meet, but exceed NATO’s target to spend 2 per cent of GDP on defence. I asked the Prime Minister to ensure other nations also meet these obligations.
Today's announcement will mean the UK military receive an extra £4 billion per year. In a world of intensifying and evolving threats, it is vital we maintain our ability to counter challenges as they emerge. This funding will help create a new artificial intelligence agency, a national cyber force and a new space command, which will be capable of launching a rocket in 2022.
