The 40th London Marathon has been cancelled for non-elite athletes. Instead there will be a virtual event on 4th October 2020 and participates can run anywhere across the world.
I am delighted to be running in my constituency of Blackpool where there is no better backdrop. Running the marathon along the promenade past our famous landmarks including Blackpool Tower, the 3 piers and the Pleasure Beach will be a special occasion.
Most importantly, I am running for 3 fantastic charities here in Blackpool: The Swallows Head and Neck Cancer Support Group; Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Samaritans; and Amazing Graze. I have been involved with all these charities and seen the fantastic work they do to support those struggling or in need.
I have set up a fundraising page on JustGiving where it is possible to donate to the charities I am supporting. I am extremely grateful for anyone who can make a donation and I know the charities will be too.
The Swallows Head and Neck Cancer Group supports sufferers and their carers who have head and neck cancer. February celebrated their 100th consecutive monthly meeting and the charity has been presented with a Queen’s Award for all its efforts.
Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Samaritans is the local branch of the Samaritans where a group of volunteers are available 24/7 to talk to anyone who needs someone to listen.
Amazing Graze is a soup kitchen in the heart of Blackpool that not only provides food, but entertainment to lift people’s spirits too.
Scott ended by saying,
I thank anyone who supports me by donating. I am no professional athlete so knowing I'm running to raise money for the charities will give me the motivation to finish the race, but don't expect any records!
