
Blackpool MP Scott Benton has today launched a search to find Blackpool’s favourite independent local shop, as nominated by the people of Blackpool.
The local MP stated:
Napoleon once called us a ‘nation of shopkeepers’. While he perhaps meant that as an insult, I think we should wear it as a badge of pride. Small shops provide an essential public service, especially for older customers who may not be able to travel easily to larger shops.”
Older constituents in particular tell me that they appreciate the friendly faces of local shopkeepers, who remember their names and go out of their way to help them.
I think it's high time that we recognised the hard work and entrepreneurial spirit of local shopkeepers.
The Blackpool South MP invites members of the public to nominate their favourite local shop in the Blackpool South constituency either via post or online. The top five will then go onto a full public vote:
